A flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that can reliably detect the appropriate flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As with other safety devices, if the sensor generated a error the whole HVAC system will remain stopped until the main issue is remedied.
Indications the Lennox flame sensor needs replacing
- The heating system is unwilling to work and shows an error code on the board
- Any type of gas that has entered the furnace refuses to try to begin an ignition sequence and closes the gas valve
- The unit will run infrequently when it feels like it
