In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a special kind of new age resistor whose resistance will fluctuate depending on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They can tell the circuit board when a certain temperature has been reached. The furnace or AC needs to know the temperature in several different areas to do its job as it should.
Major warnings of a declining thermister
- The blower fails to begin to ramp up to full speed
- The whole HVAC system may not operate because of any thermistor that is the problematic one
