The defrost sensor control board will determine when to initiate the defrosting phase which may be needed in order to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. It looks to a defrost sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to verify when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Clues of a deteriorating AC defrost sensor board
- The AC may cease to function due in part to the frost issue
- Unit defrost session has not run for quite some time even when there is a large quantity of frost that makes the unit run like crap
- The control board could display an error code produced by a failing defrost board
