A transformer is quite common in electrical appliances including your HVAC system as it converts a certain amount of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers can all be different so make sure you meet the electrical requirements. When one needs replacing, make sure to get one that is assessed for the correct voltage that will be demanded by the device.
Elements of a failing converting transformer
- Extremely low voltage calculated at the output of the system transformer while tested with the unit on
- Inexact volts can be measured stemming from the transformer
- The transformer shows cracks or fractures or you may see sparks while in use
