The defrost sensor control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrost sequence which actually helps to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. The control board depends on a defrost sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to determine when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
What are the indications that my defrost board really needs to be replaced?
- The main control board may issue an alphanumeric error code produced when the defrost control board fails to receive a signal
- The system may stop functioning due to lack of airflow through the outdoor unit
- The defrost sequence never starts especially when there is a rather large amount of frost that needs to be removed
