Lennox XC14-018 Blower Wheel
A blower wheel has fins all around it and is spun around by a motor to provide forced air through all the ductwork of a home. It is also called a squirrel cage because of its remarkable similarity to that of an oversized hamster exercise wheel. Whatever you want to call it, it is still a very necessary contraption of any heating or cooling systems that requires suitable airflow.
Some warnings to watch for in a failing blower wheel assembly
- Grinding sound can be heard as the blower begins
- You see less than usual flow of air
- If a part of the wheel has broken off and looks unbalanced when it spins
