The flame sensor is one of the safety features that can sense the precise flame when igniting the system. For obvious reasons, if the sensor goes off everything comes to a halt until the problem is fixed.
Red flags of a defective primary flame sensor
- The gas furnace cannot begin working when you crank the thermostat up
- The entire heating system will operate occasionally only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
- The gas that has entered the furnace will not even try to ignite and some type of error flashes on the main board
