The control board is constructed to control the gas valve, the igniter, all the sensors and the blower all in one unit. Your system definitely will not operate without the control board installed. You must be careful when you choose a replacement due to variances between HVAC systems. A matching board will have a matching part number that will fit in the brand and the model of HVAC system.
Indications your primary control board will not live much longer

- Heat or AC unit cannot start properly
