A flame sensor is one that will reliable sense the exact flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. Due to the overall safety issue, if the flame sensor senses a problem everything remains shut off until the problem is fixed.
Major signs of a dying safety flame sensor
- LP or natural gas cannot begin an ignition sequence and shuts off
