The compressor fan motor is in charge of cooling the compressor, when heat is removed from the house, that heat that needs to be driven away. The motor on the compressor fan can be replaced without the need of replacing the blade too, this makes replacing it a lot easier to do and helps you save some money. Please make sure you are able to buy one with the same voltage and the same amps as on the current fan motor.
