Limit switches are built because if the warmed air is too cool then you will never get hot air through the ducts. A normal limit switch contains a sensor located in the furnace that decides when the air is actually warm enough so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents.
Simple indications to watch for in a bad limit switch
- The whole system is starting to erratically occasionally
