A flame sensor is one that can reliably detect the flame when igniting the system. As expected, if the sensor produces an error the gas valve is shut off and the system halts for as long as the problem remains.
Some clues of a laboring safety flame sensor
- Any type of gas that has entered the furnace has difficulty trying to properly ignite and some type of error flashes on the main board
- The unit starts sometimes whenever it pleases
- The heat system is unable to begin operations and completely shuts down
