Limit switches exist because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. A normal limit switch has a sensor in the air handler that makes the determination if and when the air is warm enough for the air to begin normal home circulation.
Warnings of an unhealthy critical limit switch
