The ignition control board is a safety device that governs the main gas intake valve, the ignition timing and some other sensors. It has been a very important safety device that is now usually a part of the main control board instead of having two separate boards.
Some clues the major ignition board is dead
- The ignition cycle declines to launch when called upon
- Every other device in the heating and cooling system checks out OK
- Initial communication from the thermostat never turns up at the main control board
