The defrost sensor control board determines when to initiate the defrost cycle which may be needed in order to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The defrost board relies on a temperature sensor located in the outdoor unit to decide when to begin.
Warnings your defrost board is failing
- Self defrost sequence never begins even though there is excessive frost that has built up
- Most systems will not work due to the fact of the frost blocking the flow of air
- The HVAC system control board may signify an error code if the defrost board fails
