One big reason why limit switches are designed that way is because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. The limit switch contains a sensor in the air handler that determines when the air is warmed to a point so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents.
Some clues limit switch is going to die
- System will not begin the ignition sequence or continue to run longer than 10 minutes
- The whole system is starting to erratically on a regular basis
