The flame sensor is only found on gas furnaces. It is a sensor that can sense the exact flame during ignition. As with most safety features, if the sensor generated a error the system remains completely shut down until the problem is fixed.
Some warnings the primary flame sensor is going out
- The gas entering the furnace will not ignite and the whole system shuts down
- The furnace is unwilling to begin working when the control board tells it to
- The furnace will operate sporadically only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
