The defrost sensor board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrosting phase which may be needed in order to rid your unit of frost that can build up. The control board looks to a temperature sensor located somewhere by the condenser to ascertain when the defrost cycle should begin.
Major signs of an inadequate AC defrost sensor board
- The control board could display an alphanumeric error code if the defrost board fails
- The HVAC system could not work because of lack of airflow through the outdoor unit
- Self defrost sequence refuses to initiate even though there is excessive frost in the way
