The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will consistently detect the appropriate flame in accordance with the initial ignition sequence. As with most safety features, if the sensor produces an error the furnace cannot start again until obstacle is corrected.
Some warnings your safety flame sensor will need to be replaced
- The heating system turns on intermittently at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
- Your system is unable to even begin to start and will shut everything down
- The LP or natural gas will not even try to start an ignition sequence and shut down
