The defrost sensor control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrosting phase if necessary, to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The defrost board looks to a sensor located near the condenser to verify when the defrost cycle should begin.
Red flags your defrost board will eventually need to be replaced
- The defrost feature will not kick in especially when there is frost that needs to be removed
- Air conditioning may not work because of lack of airflow through the outdoor unit
- The main circuit board might issue an error signal if the defrost board goes out
