The flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that will reliable sense the appropriate flame while the system is starting. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the sensor goes off the system remains completely shut down until the main issue is remedied.

- Your furnace will not produce any heat when the thermostat kicks in
