A flame sensor is only found on gas furnaces. It is a sensor that can reliably detect the correct flame upon ignition. As with any other safety sensor, if the sensor get triggered the whole system stops until the problem is dealt with.
Signs of a weak Payne flame sensor
- Your heating system refuses to produce heat no matter what
- HVAC system runs on certain occasions at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
- The LP or natural gas refuses to start an ignition sequence and shuts itself off
