In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a varied resistance that is solely dependent on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They tell the main board when a temperature in increasing or decreasing. The system must know the temp in some specific areas of the system to make sure everything is running smoothly.
