The fan motor on the compressor has a specific duty of cooling the outdoor compressor, because as the compressor gets hot the heat that needs to be driven away. It can be replaced with or without the blade, this can make the installation go smoother and will reduce the costs you need to pay. Just make certain the replacement motor has the same voltage and amperage listed as it is on the current motor.
