A transformer is used frequently in anything electrical including your HVAC system as it is used to convert electrical output to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Heating and cooling transformers are specialized components and must adhere to strict electrical requirements. When you have to replace a transformer in the system, be sure to replace it with one that is properly rated for the exact voltage that is required.
What symptoms are present when the main transformer has a need to be replaced?
- Cycling voltages is found from the output of the transformer
- The volt dropping transformer physically appears cracked or may look broken while electricity is running through it
- No volts departing the transformer for whatever reason
