The compressor fan motor has the main duty of cooling the outdoor compressor, because a large quantity of heat gets released and that heat must be driven away. The unit may be replaced with the blade or without as this tends to make things easier and cheaper too. It is important that the replacement motor has the exact voltage and correct amp current as it is on the bad motor.
Main clues the fan motor is dead
- The main cooling motor starts to smoke or sparks when it is spinning
- The SPT motor cannot turn at all
- A constant grinding noise when the motor starts or stops
