A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that senses the acceptable flame when the system starts. As with any other safety sensor, if the flame sensor is triggered everything comes to a halt until the problem is remedied and the system is reset.
Simple indications of a weak flame sensor
- The gas that has entered the furnace refuses to try to begin an ignition sequence and shuts itself off
- The entire heating system runs intermittently whenever it pleases
- Your furnace is unwilling to start operating and produces an error code on the circuit board
