A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that can sense the exact flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. Due to safety concerns, if the flame sensor gets set off everything stops until that particular problem is fixed.

- The LP or natural gas has problems trying to begin an ignition sequence and shuts off
- HVAC system turns on rarely only after the second full moon of the month on a Tuesday
- The heat system is unable to work and spits out an error code on the main board
