A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that will sense the acceptable flame upon ignition. For obvious reasons, if the flame sensor gets set off the whole system stops until that particular problem is fixed.
Red flags of a laboring primary flame sensor
- The gas supplying the furnace will not even try to ignite no matter what
- The unit works on certain occasions barely
- The gas furnace is unable to even begin to start and completely shuts down
