Every air conditioning system contains an expansion valve that allows the coolant to expand back to its low-pressure vapor state from a high pressure liquid state. The AC for your home would probably be the worst AC in the world if the expansion valve was somehow damaged.
What symptoms are present when the expansion valve is dying?
