The air filter is good at removing microscopic dust and other tiny particles as it is being forced through the system. This filtering system will help protect the unit and make it work way more efficiently while also filtering the air breathe in and out everyday. During regular maintenance the filter should be swapped out for a new one or cleaned at least twice a year if not more, depending on how much you use it.
