The reason limit switches exist is because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. The limit switch contains a sensor in the heat exchanger that makes the determination if and when the air is warmed to a point for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air.
