In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, that has a fluctuating resistance that varies depending on the current temperature. They tell the system control board when a certain temperature reaches a certain point. The furnace or AC needs to know the temperature in several different areas to understand what is going on.
Some warnings of a declining system thermister
- Blower motor refuses in its attempt to begin full speed blowing
- The heating and cooling system may not function because of the thermistor that is malfunctioning
