The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will consistently detect the proper flame when igniting the system. As with any other safety sensor, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something everything stops for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Signs of a failing flame sensor
- The gas supplying the furnace will not burn no matter what
- The unit works rarely at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
