In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a certain type of resistor that has a fluctuating resistance that is altered by current temperature. The system interprets the temperature in several different areas to do its job as it should. They convey to the system control board when a temperature reaches a certain point.
Simple indications of a weak all-important thermister
- The main blower could possibly fail to begin to engage full speed
- The entire system may not initiate the starting sequence due to any one thermistor that is malfunctioning
