A thermistor is a type of resistor which has a resistance that is dependent on the thermal temperature. The main control board needs to know the temperature in a few critical areas to know what to do next. They notify the heating and cooling system when a certain temperature reaches a certain point.
What are some indications that my Whirlpool thermister is crapping out?
- The heating and cooling system may never start up depending on which is the thermistor that is stuck open
- The system blower fails to begin to ramp up
