The reason limit switches exist is due to the fact that if the air never warms up inside the exchanger the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. A normal limit switch has a sensor located in the furnace that determines when the air is warmed to a point so that it may be pushed through the ducts and out the vents.
