Every air conditioning system contains an expansion valve that makes it easier for the refrigerant to expand into its normal low-pressure gaseous form from a high pressure liquid state. The AC in your house would be worthless with no functioning valve.
Some warnings the expansion valve has very little life left
- The air conditioner takes its sweet time to appropriately cool all the rooms in your house
- The cooled air is not as cool as it really should be coming out of the vents
