The purpose of the ignition control board is that it manages the natural gas, the igniter and some other sensors. It has been a very important safety device that, over the years, has merged to become a major component of the main board instead of its own individual board.
Red flags the major ignition board is in dire need of a replacement
- The initial signal from the main thermostat does not turn up at the control board
- Initial sequence will not launch when it receives a proper signal
- Any other problem in the heating and cooling system checks out fine
