A transformer is very common in many household goods including heating and cooling systems and it converts the electrical output from one that is higher to a lower voltage. Heating and cooling transformers can have different specs so make sure you meet the voltage requirements. If a replacement is necessary, then it would be good to get one that is rated for the voltage that is required.
