The defrost sensor board initiates the defrost cycle which helps to keep your outdoor unit from plugging up. The board looks to a temperature sensor located near the condenser to ascertain when the defrost cycle should begin.
Cues of a faulty outdoor defrost sensor board
- Self defrost sequence will not initiate even though there is quite a bit frost on the outdoor unit
- The system will not run at all because of frost blocking the airflow outside
- The main circuit board may show an error number if the defrost board goes out
