A basic electrical transformer is used frequently in anything electrical including your AC or furnace as it converts a certain amount of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers may have specific specs and they should follow strict volts called for with the original. If you need to replace one, make sure you buy the one that is rated for the exact voltage for the sake of safety.
