The unit filter was designed for removing microscopic dust and other miniscule particles from the air in the house. The filter can both protect the unit and help it be way more efficiently while, at the same time, filtering the air you breathe in your house. During regular maintenance the unit filter must be swapped out for a new one or cleaned at least twice a year if not more, depending on how much you use it.
